Dietary fibre in laying hens: a review of effects on performance, gut health and feather pecking

چکیده
SUMMARYDietary fibre has traditionally been considered an energy-diluting component of laying hen diets. With low energetic values, and sometimes negative impacts on digesta viscosity gut function, formulations have often aimed to minimise crude contents. Increasing contents can mean that the level fat required meet nutritional standards must be increased account for decrease in energy, with consequential feed handling. By contrast, recent research shown some dietary fibres beneficial effects performance, driven by changes digestibility, structure as well shifts microbiota. However, there is a lack clarity quantity type yield production benefits. Broadly, soluble – while largely detrimental nutrient digestibility act prebiotics, favouring intestinal microbiomes, insoluble stimulate development may preventative feather pecking cannibalism.

متن کاملFeather Pecking of Laying Hens in Different Stocking Density and Type of Cage
Both stocking rate and housing systems are main factors influencing the occurrence of feather pecking in laying hens raised in conventional cage system. This study examines the effects of different type of cage and stock density on feather pecking behaviour in hens. Total of 216 Hisex Brown hens at 16 weeks of age were randomly selected and put into 2 types of battery cages: conventional cages ...
متن کاملRelationship between feather pecking and ground pecking in laying hens and the effect of group size.
The aim of this experiment was to study the relationship between feather pecking and ground pecking in laying hens and the effect of group size on feather pecking behaviour. Hisex White hens were kept in floor pens in group sizes of 15, 30, 60 and 120 birds, each with four replicates. Behavioural observations were performed at four different ages and focused on the number of feather pecks and a...
متن کاملEffect of foraging material and food form on feather pecking in laying hens.
1. The aim was to test whether provision of foraging material and food form influence feather pecking and feather damage in laying hens. 2. From week 19 of age, 16 groups of 11 hens (white Lohman Selected Leghorn hybrids) were kept in pens with or without access to long-cut straw as foraging material and fed on either mash or pellets. 3. Foraging behaviour was increased in hens with access to s...
